The Meaning of Life

By Anonymous

As I reminisce about the past, I recall that all the memories I cherish and remember are memories of my family, my friends, my teachers, and people who lived in our surroundings. It is not the grades I received, or the material things I owned but rather the experiences I shared. Life is a journey and sometimes material goals blind us so much that we forget to cherish the beauty, the love, and the experiences that we come across in this journey.

The end goal is not to just be an Engineer and make a living. Everyone makes a living one way or another. The meaning in our life comes from something deeper than just making a buck. It comes from doing good to others, to making the lives of others easier and happier, helping those who are less privileged and in need. It comes from solidarity in good purpose and making an impact in achieving it. Living life just as an isolated individual chasing after material things can only lead to emptiness and lack of happiness. I am reminded of the rat race video where the rats are running past each other, crushing others in the hopes of getting ahead. They think material things like a car, entertainment gadgets, alcohol, drugs, or some new shiny toy will make them happy. One after another they become more and more miserable. There is no meaning to these material things in and of itself.
