Love Will Always be My Answer

By Kaelyn Brown

“Morally, you cannot beat the enemy by becoming the enemy.” Dr. King says this in the King of the Wilderness video we watched.

So often, too often, rather than apologizing, letting our guards down, coming together, creating peaceful protests, we try to one-up.

We try to hurt our opponent worse than they hurt us, we try to match weapons with more weapons, match words with worse words…

I have been especially thinking about this aspect during the past week because in some ways, I understand it. I understand why we would want to become the enemy in order to beat the enemy.

It stems from being hurt, feeling hate, not feeling enough love…

In whatever situation it may be, we want the enemy to feel MORE hurt and hatred than we do, that means we won.

I don’t believe in this way of fighting for what we believe in, I don’t believe it is ever right. We dig ourselves into a deeper hole of hate, when the only thing that can get us out is love.

It pains me to really see how much hate has been and still is in this world.

We have come so far from love, from peace

So far that it’s difficult for me to see a way out.

Although, I do believe it is possible, I do feel things changing and shifting

People are waking and realizing… it will only be good from here– I truly believe that.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.” -Dr. King
