Walk for You
By Niall Twohig
Today I walked for you, Ma.
I wish you had healthy knees to walk with me.
But this society has robbed you of that.
So, I’ll walk for you as long as I can walk.
I’ll take in the leaves underfoot,
the clouds overhead,
I’ll take in the roly-polies in the dirt,
the birds in the trees.
This walk nourishes me,
but not just me –
Let it nourish you who was starved.
This walk mends me,
but not just me –
Let it heal you who was broken.
